Woodberry Forest School, located in Madison, VA, is an exceptional private boarding school community for high school boys in grades nine through twelve. It is one of the top boarding schools in the United States and one of the only all-boys, all-boarding schools in the country. Woodberry’s 1,200-acre campus is the largest for boarding schools in Virginia, and one of the largest private school campuses in the country.

The Learning Specialist will use a metacognitive approach in working with students one-on-one or in small groups to manage individual accommodations and to provide academic, executive function, study skill, and organizational support. The Learning Specialist will also serve as a resource for faculty for all academic supports by offering resources, assistance, and training in assisting faculty in better meeting the needs of all learners. Other duties and responsibilities include communication with the school Psychologist and regarding Individualized Academic Plans, updating advisors and parents regarding student progress, documenting and maintaining communication related to academic support, as well as any other duties as determined by the Dean of Academics or the Head of School.

Qualifications Required

Master’s degree in education or related fields and/or 3+ years’ experience in individualized academic support. Effective and professional oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively at an interdepartmental level; proficiency with Google Workspace; A positive attitude, flexible approach, and a sense of humor.

Qualifications Preferred

A strong knowledge base in supporting students with learning differences, including dyslexia and dysgraphia, ADHD, and Executive Functioning differences. Knowledge of Metacognitive Approaches to learning, emerging trends, and best practices in the field of Academic Support. Familiarity with DSM-5 and 504 and IEP plans. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
