McCallie seeks a Director of Development for Events. The director will plan and implement a nationwide alumni outreach program to create and strengthen strategic pathways for alumni to be an integral partner in the school’s mission through events and financial support.  This is a 12-month, exempt position,  requiring some evening and weekend work and out-of-town travel.

Responsibilities and Duties

1.  Provide leadership and management of McCallie’s out of town outreach program.

  • Plan, manage, and attend 4-5 events per semester in select cities including, but not limited to: signature events, service projects, educational sessions, after-hours socials, and “streaming” viewings of events.
  • Recruit alumni ambassadors where needed and develop a contact plan to maintain and engage an informed and motivated volunteer team.
  • Direct Team Travel which would include Development, Admission, and school leadership.
  • Collaborate with appropriate staff director and/or select volunteer chairs regarding out of town event needs.
  • Develop a plan of engagement for college-age alumni. (4-5 events per year, including the Young Alumni Holiday party with GPS in December)
  • Design and implement a marketing plan for these events; work with Communications team in preparing promotional materials: logos, brochure, invitations, email , and social media.
  • Handle production work for events:  recruitment/support of hosts and/or speakers when appropriate, promos, invitations, registration needs, guest lists, staff assignments, nametags, prospects lists, etc…

2.  Assist the Director of Development-Events and act as #2 point person.

  • Assist as a logistics liaison for all development office events
  • Assist with reunion classes to help organize their committees, social, and fundraising plans.
  • Assist in securing event and class party venues; handle menu, set-up, pricing, attendee numbers, payment, etc.
  • Assist with Affinity events. (Athletics, Arts, Veterans, Boomerang Boarders, etc…)

3.  Handle in-house duties pertaining to program:  goals and objectives, budget, calendaring, database maintenance, tracking and reporting, etc.

4.  Support other development functions where appropriate.


In addition to a belief in the mission of  McCallie School and an adherence to fulfill the Donor Bill of Rights, the position requires: Bachelor’s degree and related experience in volunteer management and event planning; excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously; computer expertise.
