Hutchison seeks a strong, dynamic, driven, and personable individual to lead its well-established, successful athletics program. The ideal candidate must be an emotionally adaptive leader with a remarkable ability to communicate with and engage multiple constituents. Chief duties will include planning, implementing, and managing the school’s physical fitness, intramural, and interscholastic sports programs and activities.

  • Plans, organizes, and oversees the school’s comprehensive sports and fitness-based physical education program; ensures program objectives mirror the school’s mission, values, and culture.
  • Arranges activities and schedules with sports league officials; attends league meetings as required or appropriate.
  • Ensures that the school’s processes and student eligibility to compete in league athletics are consistent with league guidelines.
  • Oversees the establishment of sports and physical education program policies, procedures, and curriculum; monitors and adjusts as necessary.
  • Coordinates and oversees the recruitment, selection, supervision, development, evaluation, and termination of sports and physical education coaches and trainers.
  • Works with the facilities director to ensure proper maintenance, repairs, staffing levels, travel schedules and the security and safety of students, players, and visitors.
  • Serves as athletics liaison to the admissions and development offices; assists with stewardship of prospective families and donors.
  • Partners with the chief financial officer to plan an effective annual sports and physical education budget.
  • Oversees the preparation of sports publicity and information materials that enhance participation and accurately inform participants, spectators, and the public.
  • Bachelor’s degree in athletics education, sports management, or education administration required; Master’s degree preferred
  • High moral character, serving as an exemplar in conduct, speech, and attitude
  • Prior experience as a student-athlete and as an athletic assistant or coach
  • Well-rounded knowledge of physical conditioning methods
  • Strong emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and in emergency situations
