The O’Neal School has an immediate opening for the position of Director of Admissions and Financial Aid.  Reporting to the Head of School, the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid is responsible for the admissions process from inquiry through integration into the school. This position is a full-time, exempt, benefits-eligible position.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:


  • Oversee the program of admissions of new students to The O’Neal School
  • Present the school to prospective students and families. This includes efficient handling of applications, responding to all inquiries relating to admission and financial aid in a timely manner, interviews with candidates and their families, tours of the school, arrangements for admissions testing, securing of necessary student credentials, and communicating final decisions, among other responsibilities
  • Oversee the administration of the Admissions office, including aspects of the admissions budget, admissions and marketing materials, files, databases, and mailings
  • Administer financial aid and scholarship programs, including as part of the Financial Aid Committee
  • Create, implement, and report on annual goals, objectives, and a plan of action for attracting and retaining students. Develop strategic goals and actions to achieve target enrollment
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with constituents, including community members and organizations and professional consultants
  • Collaborate with the Director of Communications on admissions-related publicity and communications
  • Manage the re-enrollment process of current students for the succeeding year
  • Keep relevant data and statistics on all aspects of the admission and re-enrollment programs; regularly present to the Board of Trustees
  • Organize and run recruitment events for prospective families and retention events for current families
  • Represent The O’Neal School at gatherings, conferences, and other events
  • Serve as a member of the school’s administrative team, working collaboratively with fellow administrators in the best interests of the school
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School





  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in admissions (in an independent school setting preferred)
  • Must be highly supportive of and aligned with The O’Neal School’s mission and vision
  • Experience with admissions-related software preferred
  • Demonstrated attentiveness to detail
  • Excellent project management skills and the ability to manage multiple initiatives at the same time
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present in front of large and small groups and communicate in a compelling manner on behalf of the school
  • Excellent customer service skills related to interaction with students, families, and fellow employees
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Must maintain a positive reputation, demonstrate integrity, and be honest and accountable
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to report for work on time and perform job responsibilities in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner
  • All employees of The O’Neal School must pass a drug test and background check and must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  The Director of Admissions and Financial Aid must not have been convicted of, pleaded guilty to, entered a plea of nolo contendere to, or received judicial diversion for any felony charges or to any violation of any federal, state, or local laws relating to force, violence, theft, or dishonesty. The Director of Admissions and Financial Aid may also be subject to a credit check and/or more extensive background check.
