Director of Lower School

At The Children’s School (TCS), our community and curriculum intentionally reflect the world in which we live. The Children’s School seeks an experienced full-time Director of Lower School to start July 2022.

The Director of Lower School is the educational leader and manager of the Lower School division of The Children’s School, optimizing resources and ensuring alignment of the division’s plans for continuous improvement with the School’s strategic plan. The Director of Lower School builds effective working relationships with faculty and staff, parents and students for best practices for teaching and student learning. The position provides effective crisis and issue management consultation. The Director of Lower School models continuous commitment to building a talented teaching team that drives instructional excellence and progressive education. 

Qualifications: Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of School administration and faculty supervision. Ability to build effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and parents. Ability to conceptualize, initiate, monitor and assess new and/or current School-based programs. Demonstrated experience with curriculum and program design, and faculty feedback, coaching, and evaluation is required. Knowledge, imagination and drive needed to provide leadership in an educational setting.

Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or Curriculum & Instruction preferred. Related Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum of five (5) years of successful elementary teaching experience required. Teaching experience at multiple grade levels is preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in school or leadership position required; experience as a principal preferred. 

Possesses a solid understanding of pedagogy and child development, and a passion for and the development of young learners. Have demonstrated experience in, and enthusiasm for, 21st century education and/or experiential education, character development, educational technology, diversity work, and a commitment to developing the potential of students and Faculty. 

Demonstrates leadership abilities, a high level of integrity, and superb organizational, communication, and relationship skills are required. Able to assume new tasks with adaptability and adjust to changing roles gracefully. Possesses strong personal qualities such as tact, engenders respect, and has a sense of humor. Ability to exercise strict confidence in handling sensitive information. Able to grasp the complexities of a school’s total operation, and constituent relationships.
