Pace Academy is an independent college preparatory school in Atlanta, Ga., with an enrollment of 1,115 students in Pre-First through 12th grade. The school is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer/Associate Director of Athletics to collaborate with two contracted athletics trainers already on staff through a partnership with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. In addition, this individual is one of three members of the school’s COVID Response Team, which is responsible for contact tracing and serving as a liaison to the Georgia Department of Public Health.


This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position that reports to the Director of Athletics. The projected start date is Jan. 1, 2022.



  • Provides preventative care to Pace student-athletes and supports coaches by caring for players’ sports-related injuries
  • Administers primary clinical evaluations and subsequent treatment and rehabilitation programs
  • Proficient in assessing, treating and managing concussions
  • Partners with the Office of Athletics regarding on-field protocol such as (but not limited to) severe weather plans, concussion protocol, cervical spine injuries, emergency action plans, etc.
  • Supervises designated Middle and Upper school practices and athletics events
  • Manages sports medicine for a high-level football program
  • Ensures compliance with all Georgia High School Association medical guidelines
  • Verifies, reviews and organizes student physicals, health records and parental release forms in conjunction with school nursing personnel and the Office of Athletics to determine athletic eligibility
  • Manages medical inventory and budgetary items
  • Works closely with the Office of Athletics administration in determining safety and medical concerns for athletics events, including EMS coverage, COVID-19 contract tracing/protocols, etc.
  • Acts as a liaison with the High-Performance Department of the Office of Athletics and oversees development and implementation of strength and conditioning programming
  • Proficient in Google software, including Mail, Drive, Sheets, Docs, etc.
  • Works weekend, evening and holiday hours as required during sports seasons



  • Experience working on and/or leading a team of sports medicine support staff in partnership with an athletics department
  • Bachelor’s degree in a health-related course of study
  • Current certification by the Board of Certification and licensed by the Georgia Board of Athletic Trainers
  • Current CPR/AED certification required



  • Physical requirements include lifting (up to 75 pounds), carrying, driving, climbing, the ability to move distances within and between buildings and fields, and the ability to work in extreme heat and cold temperatures
  • Administration of therapeutic modalities and the knowledge of indications and contraindications
  • Hands-on involvement with the rehabilitation process by performing a variety of treatments and rehabilitation procedures consistent with orthopedic care
  • Ability to maintain a professional code of ethics and be a positive role model for students
  • Outstanding people skills and the ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize and complete work with minimal supervision, while working closely as a team member in a fast-paced environment
