Our High School curriculum consists of Long Terms (Semester 1&2) with Short Term curriculum in January and May. Our Long Term curriculum begins in 9th grade with non-leveled foundational courses that all students take – Biology I, English 9, Topics in World History. We level curriculum for sequential courses in Modern Language and in Math. Students have the chance to choose non-academic elective courses during the Long Terms. In 10th grade, students again take non-leveled foundational courses – Chemistry I, English 10, American History and leveled courses in Modern Language and Math. As 11th and 12th graders, students have the opportunity to create balanced schedules and focus on areas of interest. We are currently looking for a High School Assistant Director of Studies. This position will work directly with the High School Director of Studies, High School Principal and administrative leadership team.  Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating curriculum, logistics and scheduling in coordination with department chairs for Short Term course offerings,
  • Work directly with students on scheduling, class offerings and courses throughout the year,
  • Work with the High School Director of Studies on Long Term course offerings, departmental curricular reviews, and long term scheduling,
  • Shared coordination with Department Chairs on Departmental curricular topics
  • Work with the High School Director of Studies on initiating curricular conversations in departments and cross level transition points.

This is a full time position with part time teaching ( 2 sections) of any level  in the following disciplines – English, Science, Social Studies, or Math. Other responsibilities include academic advising of 10-12 students and weekly faculty meetings. Faculty may also choose to act as a club or student activity sponsor or coach a sports team.

Required Skills / Abilities:

We are looking for someone who has a BA and a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience. Experience with developing High School curriculum and working with High School aged children is preferred. A Master’s degree is not required but preferred.  We are looking for someone with proven ability to collaborate effectively with administrators, colleagues at different levels of the school, parents and students at all levels.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Main responsibilities are outlined above in the job description. This position requires working directly with students, teachers and parents on course selection, development and scheduling.  The High School Assistant Director of Studies will need to work with our scheduling software – Powerschool – for scheduling both the  Long Terms and Short Terms. This position will also work with the High School support group and student advisors in helping monitor student academic, social and emotional progress throughout the year. It will also include advising a group of High School students, attending High School events during and after school as well as working with new students and parents of the High School.
