St. Luke’s Episcopal School is seeking a Lower School Director for the 2022-2023 school year and beyond. The Lower School Director is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Japonica campus as well as the execution of the school’s mission and vision in support of student educational, spiritual, physical, social, and emotional growth. The Lower School Director will work closely with faculty, students, and parents to sustain the excellence and mission congruence of all activities in the division. The Lower School Director reports directly to the Head of School and is a member of the school’s leadership team.

Essential Functions

  • Articulate the division’s mission, vision, and programs to ensure all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles
  • Work collaboratively to help create a culture of growth, learning, innovation, and continuous improvement
  • Direct the activities of the faculty and staff in the performance of their professional duties, ensuring that a range of diverse learners can be served
  • Supervise, evaluate and mentor faculty to improve teaching and learning
  • Provide a safe and secure environment conducive to teaching and learning
  • Communicate and interact regularly and effectively with faculty, staff, students, and parents
  • Make recommendations to the Head of School for hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty and staff
  • Organize, plan and lead regular divisional faculty meetings
  • Maintain a comprehensive events calendar for the division and provide oversight of, and coordination with, all campus and school activities
  • Manage the overall grading process and report card distribution, maintaining complete and confidential academic records on all students
  • Guide discipline practices with a clear approach to accountability: establishing guidelines for student behavior, monitoring student decorum, and maintaining accurate and confidential discipline records
  • Be visible, accessible, and approachable in all areas of the school
  • Create and manage a campus master schedule and assign faculty and students to classes and other obligations
  • Work closely with the Japonica Parent Association
  • Share in the management and supervision of the Lower School After School Program and Japonica Summer Program
  • Develop and update division publications including website, admissions materials, student/parent handbook, student supply list, etc.
  • Keep the Head of School informed of general activities and programs of the division, collaborating toward the resolution of routine and unique problems as they might arise
  • In partnership with the Director of Development, coordinate and assist in all fundraising activities unique to the division
  • In partnership with the Director of Marketing and Communication, draft social media and weekly electronic publications about Lower School events
  • In partnership with the Director of Admissions, support comprehensive enrollment management efforts for the Japonica campus
  • In partnership with the Business Office, maintain and manage the campus and division budget
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School

This full-time position begins July 1, 2022.
