Triangle Day School is seeking an enthusiastic and talented Lower School Science Lab Teacher to start in early January 2022. This person will be responsible for teaching a hands-on STEAM/STEM curriculum to Transitional Kindergarten (pre-school) through Fifth Grade classes biweekly, attending regular faculty meetings, assisting with science competitions (such as our First Lego League robotics team), and organizing our annual student Science Expo.

  • Plan and execute a balanced Lower School science curriculum with achievable goals that can be accomplished through the use of hands-on, lab-based exploration.
  • Collaborate with grade-level homeroom teachers to align science lab and classroom curriculums.
  • Facilitate age-appropriate activities, including the use of available technology (Ozobots, EV3 robots, Smart boards, etc).
  • Maintain care and responsibility for science lab resources, equipment, and small animals.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity level and interests of the students.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports.
  • Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other staff members in assessing and aiding in bringing students to their full potential.
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school and through self-selected professional growth activities.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher (post-graduate preferred) in science education or a STEAM/STEM-related field.
  • 3+ years of teaching experience with children ages 4-10 preferred
  • Deep love for and knowledge of STEAM/STEM education in the primary and secondary years
  • Passion for nurturing the curiosity and creativity of students
  • Eagerness to collaborate with colleagues across divisions and departments
  • Familiarity with instructional technology both for teaching and communication
Additional Details:
  • Full-Time Position, ten-month year (August-June)
  • Salary in accordance with certification and experience
  • School hours run Monday – Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
