Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy seeks a passionate 6th grade humanities teacher to teach historical concepts with a concentration on ancient civilizations and an emphasis on developing core literacy competencies and skills. We want our students to have both breadth and depth of knowledge as well as the confidence to ask questions and pursue their curiosities through literature and the craft of writing.

The 6th grade teaching faculty consists of a three-member core team including a life science teacher and a math teacher. The position requires maintaining a full teaching load, serving as an advisor to a small cohort of students, and active support of various student life activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with grade level team members to plan and implement multidisciplinary experiences and other grade specific programming
  • Effectively differentiate instruction to meet the various needs of students, including whole group, small group, and individualized instruction
  • Serve as a homeroom advisor
  • Integrate educational technology (including iPads) appropriately into the curriculum
  • Create a sense of community and belonging among students where each individual student is celebrated for his or her identity and strengths 
  • Provide students with specific, actionable feedback and grades
  • Communicate with parents proactively, positively, and professionally to support the academic, social-emotional, and physical needs of students
  • Work with the middle school learning support team to provide accommodations for students with specific learning needs
  • Actively engage in the school’s process of process growth and development
  • Perform other duties to support the division and/or school as a whole
