POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Walker School is seeking an energetic, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual for a full-time Computer Science and Robotics position working with students in grades 6 – 12, beginning August 2022.   Responsibilities include leading both introductory and advanced courses in computer science and technology, which may include programming courses and/or robotics. The teaching load is five sections along with serving as a grade-level advisor.

QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS

The ideal candidate should have a passion for teaching computer science. In addition to excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines and grade levels.  Our curriculum requires that the candidate show proficiency with at least two programming languages, ideally Python and Java.   The candidate should have experience with or a willingness to learn robotics.  This position requires flexibility and the willingness to work after school and some weekends for robotics events.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  •  Develop and prioritize short and long-term instructional objectives based on the Technology curriculum.
  • Presents well-planned lessons with appropriate work within and outside of the classroom.
  • Maintains accurate and comprehensive records of each student’s performance and progress.
  • Develops strong student relations and nurtures the whole student by effectively communicating through active listening and appropriate responses.
  • Demonstrates effective and timely verbal and written communication with parents pertaining to a student’s progress and needs as well as general information (through phone calls, emails, learning management system, conferences, and semester comments).
  • Participates actively in professional learning opportunities and demonstrates a growth, not fixed, mindset toward learning.
  • Assist in the growth and development of the after-school robotics program
