LOWER SCHOOL NURSE

Pace Academy seeks a Registered Nurse to cover a maternity leave for approximately fourteen weeks starting in late January. Specifically, coverage is needed Monday-Friday from 7:30am-3:30pm starting January 31 through May 6, 2022.  Pace will consider a job-share arrangement depending on candidate availability. 

 

This position is responsible for the daily operation of the Lower School health clinic including medication administration and providing first aid and subsequent treatment to injured or ill students in grades pre-first to fifth grades. The ideal candidate will bring a strong sense of humor, initiative, flexibility, and enjoy providing care to young children. The ability to be punctual, self-motivated, and commit to the work schedule is essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Administers medical care for sick and injured students
  • Develops individual treatment plans for continuing care or observation
  • Dispenses prescribed medications to students as ordered by physician
  • Provides health education to students and staff as appropriate
  • Assists the school staff and/or students in understanding and managing students health issues
  • Consults with other nurses, school staff, health care providers, parents, and students on health issues as appropriate
  • Maintains a daily record of students intervention and coordinates reports with other school nurses
  • Serves on the COVID Response Team, responsible for contact tracing
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Working Conditions: 

  • Office environment may be noisy with frequent interruptions
  • Regular exposure to infectious material/diseases
  • Regular exposure to chemicals/solvents
  • Must bend, stoop, or crouch
  • May have to lift and carry 50-60 pounds with assistance

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university
  • Current Georgia license to practice as  a Registered Professional Nurse
  • CPR certification: able to perform CPR and utilize AED machine
  • Knowledge of scoliosis, immunizations, hearing/vision screening techniques
  • Knowledge of nursing policies, procedures, protocols, standards of care in accordance with State policy and Nurse Practice Act
  • Must be willing to serve on the school’s COVID Response Team, responsible for Contact Tracing
  • Must be knowledgeable of federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and/or processes as related to providing healthcare services and regarding appropriate first aid techniques
  • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks and apply critical thinking skills
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with School personnel, parents and work with diverse groups of people
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be able to work on campus, in-person
