The O’Neal School has an immediate opening for a full-time School Nurse. The School Nurse works with school administration to provide a healthy and safe environment for all students, faculty, and staff.

This is a 10-month position.  The School Nurse is required to be on campus Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:00pm throughout the school year.  This is an exempt, benefits-eligible position.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide general first aid, emergency care, and administration of medication for students and employees, including collaboration with families
  • Evaluate students’ physical condition and refer them to appropriate resources as needed
  • Manage school health records in accordance with all federal, state, and county regulations; maintain immunization records for students. Maintain up-to-date documentation on student health issues and complete Student Accident reports as needed.
  • Serve as primary resource for health-related questions and issues. Communicate with parents about COVID-related policies, including “return to school” dates for students.
  • In collaboration with the Head of School and Senior Leadership, develop policies, procedures, and standards for school health programs
  • Monitor compliance of school health program with federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies
  • Coordinate school and community health activities and serves as a liaison between home, school, and community
  • Provide professional development and training on health-related topics for employees
  • Serve as a member of the Board’s Safety & Wellness Committee
  • Promote control of communicable diseases
  • Ensure best practices are used to comply with licensing standards
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding students and their families
  • Be available (remotely) to answer questions and provide support for urgent, time-sensitive matters during non-work hours including evenings, weekends, and school breaks
  • Maintain Nurse’s Office; oversee the acquisition of supplies and materials necessary to efficiently run the Nurse’s Office and maintain proper inventory of health supplies
  • Maintain a friendly and positive work environment which allows students to express concerns in a confidential, non- judgmental, culturally sensitive manner



  • Registered Nurse (RN) required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • CPR certification required; CPR instructor certification preferred
  • Experience working with children
  • Knowledge of current trends, principles, and practices in school health and nursing
  • Knowledge of health-related support organizations and resources
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment and a commitment to cultural competency
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws relating to health and social issues
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to maintain large amounts of administrative data
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and committed to acting in the best interest of students
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
