Maclay School seeks a full-time (12 month) accountant to assist with the day-to-day operational tasks in the Business Office.  The Business Office is the central hub for all financial aspects of the school.  A positive, out-going, customer-oriented personality is vital for the success of this position.  The position is a member of the Business Office and reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

Responsibilities:

  •  Supervise billing of tuition and fees through the FACTS system; perform reconciliations and prepare journal entries to record revenue in the general ledger.
  • Assist the CFO in preparing financial statements for internal and external review, annual budgets and long-range financial plans.
  • Maintain fixed asset inventory and depreciation schedule.
  • Maintain the General Ledger, including monthly reconciliations, closing entries, accruals, and revenue recognition.
  • Review and monitor bank account balances and reconcile all bank accounts.
  • Assist in the preparation and processing of the bi-weekly and monthly payrolls.
  • Prepare annual 1099s for independent contractors.
  • Assist employees with benefit elections and deductions.
  • Communicate with families regarding past due accounts.
  • Work closely with various constituents, including senior administration, Division Directors, department chairs, budget managers, parents and students.
  • Proactively review the School’s accounting, financial reporting, and internal control policies and procedures to seek continuous improvement and to achieve government and regulatory compliance.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the CFO.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, with 3-5 years’ experience.  Non-profit or independent school experience preferred, but not required.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online and FACTS Tuition Management preferred, but not required.
  • Self-motivated with professional demeanor and presence, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Great attention to detail and initiative in problem solving.
  • Contribute to the Business Office team in a positive and proactive manner.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently.
