Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,040 students in grades 1 -12. The School is seeking a full-time Upper School Physics Teacher beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Our Upper School division is comprised of grades 9 through 12.

Broad responsibilities:
– Teaches classes of Upper School Science courses, primarily Physics and other physical science and engineering curricula, with the incorporation of technology and engineering as appropriate to meet STEM and NGSS goals. Teaching physics on the Advanced Placement level is possible for this position if qualified and interested.

– Inspires a love of and appreciation for laboratory science in our students.

– Participates as an active team member within the Science Department, the Upper School faculty, and the school community as a whole.

– Serves as advisor to a small group of students and participates in various Upper School activities such as committees, division level meetings, clubs and organizations.

The successful candidate will have:
– A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably with a degree or certification in Physics, Engineering, or associated STEM field.
– Proficiency in the use of technology in the classroom.
– A well-developed knowledge of classroom safety and preparation requirements for laboratory set-ups.
– Preferably three years of experience teaching science, with the majority of this experience teaching physics or physical science in an Upper School setting.
– Knowledge of and desire to teach progressive pedagogical methods including, but not limited to, modeling instruction, project/problem-based learning, and incorporation of engineering skills.
– Willingness to support diversity and inclusion efforts at the school.

Reporting: The Upper School Physics Teacher will report directly to the Head of Upper School and will take direction from the Science Department Chair.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
