Paideia is an independent pre-K through 12 college-preparatory school in the Emory University area of Atlanta of over 1,000 students. The curriculum consists of extensive offerings in English, social sciences, mathematics, foreign languages, natural and physical sciences, art, and music. Class size averages 15 students. The Paideia farm is located off campus in East Atlanta and encompasses several acres of growing spaces and livestock pastures.  We have developed a diversified farm system that promotes both functional biodiversity while growing fruit and vegetables, medicinal and culinary herbs, and shiitake mushrooms. We also have an apiary and a small herd of dwarf Nigerian goats.

The Paideia Farm and its companion projects in the local urban agriculture community serve as an educational platform to support the school’s curriculum. They connect students to where their food comes from, with a core focus on food justice. They provide opportunities to address issues of equitable distribution by providing healthy food to families in our communities in a system of mutual aid. In this model, the Paideia Urban Ag program creates bridges to diverse communities with a sliding scale CSA, through the Grassroots Growers Alliance, and in collaboration with the Thomasville Heights and Price Middle School farms.
