Varsity Football Coach, Teaching and Administration Responsibilities


Maclay is seeking a Varsity Football Coach/Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year.


Maclay’s Football program has experienced strong post-season play and plans to continue building upon the momentum that has been established. The program is supported by one of the top Strength and Conditioning coaches in the state and a full-time athletic trainer.


Prior coaching experience in an independent school setting is preferred. All Maclay coaches are expected to inspire scholar-athletes to reach their full academic and personal potential, live the school’s mission and core values on a daily basis, and develop healthy and lasting relationships throughout the Maclay community.


Maclay School offers 16 sports and fields 24 interscholastic varsity teams which have won a total of 79 State Championships including 36 team state titles. Over 83% of our students participate in at least one sport. Maclay Marauders practice and compete on some of the state’s finest fields and indoor facilities.

Education Requirements: Minimum of bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree and Teaching certificate preferred.

PURPOSE: The successful candidate will be a coach that is willing to love, serve and develop our student-athletes while demonstrating strong character, professionalism, relational skills and be a positive role model appropriately utilizing the platform of their sport while striving to compete at the highest level.


QUALIFICATIONS that are preferred include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Embraces and embodies the purposefully stated Maclay’s mission statement below
  • Has extensive knowledge and successful experience coaching at the varsity level
  • Takes the intiative and possesses the energy needed to lead and grow an athletic program in a K-12 independent school environment
  • Organized, detail oriented with strong communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, and Social Media.


ACCOUNTABILITY: Reports to the Director of Athletic and Assistant Director of Athletic and Academic Chair of department and works with Maclay’s Strength and Conditioning Coordinator.



  • Represent the school in a manner that exhibits and promotes Maclay’s mission
  • Comply with the rules and regulations of FHSAA
  • Timely and consistent communication of scheduling logistics throughout the school year and enforcement of all team and school policies relating to all activities according to the Student-Athlete/Coaches Handbooks
  • Develop a comprehensive program that includes being the head coach of the varsity team as well as having major input into the structure, hiring and overall development of the Middle School program.
  • Assist in planning, organize, and implement the teaching of fundamentals, strategies, rules, and proper conditioning including the off season
  • Provide an atmosphere conducive to good sportsmanship; compile and maintain accurate performance statistics and records; utilize school leadership curriculum
  • Work well with other sports and school programming to allow for students pursuing appropriately balanced multi-sport/activity opportunities
  • Ensure that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program. This includes responsibility for students while on road trips and beyond game time; provide for their safety by inspecting facilities/equipment and being aware of environmental conditions
  • Issue, collect, inventory, store equipment and uniforms consistent with department guidelines in a timely manner
  • Develop positive, productive relationships with the entire Maclay community
  • Develop and maintain a budget for the program
  • Facilitate coaches, team & parent meetings
  • Work with our full time Director of Strength and Conditioning to ensure safety and focus on injury prevention, stability, mobility, and flexibility
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.


HOURS/COMPENSATION: Will devote the needed hours during the school year as well as the summer with workouts in applicable programs. Compensation to be commensurate with experience, qualifications and within the parameters of the school budget.
