School leadership cannot realistically develop deep expertise in each of these areas. Rather, understanding how to “conduct the orchestra” and create a process where each discipline reinforces the others is critical to a successful project.
A campus development initiative may be the highest risk/reward endeavor that an independent school can undertake. When the complexity, added workload, and leadership-defining challenges are successfully navigated, new facilities can profoundly impact the student experience the day the doors open and for years into the future. The tangible results will, by definition, create a legacy and, when carefully planned and executed, position your school for an even more ambitious vision.
Audience: This workshop is designed for school heads, senior leaders involved in campus development (finance, advancement, communication), and board leadership. Schools are encouraged to send a team in order to ensure alignment across the various functions directly involved.
Facilitator: Keith Evans
Keith Evans retired from Westminster Schools in 2026 after 12 years as president. Prior to that role, he was the head of school at Collegiate School in Richmond, VA, for 15 years. In both settings, he led a series of campaigns and campus development initiatives that spanned a range of different facility types and financing strategies. In retirement, his interests include supporting nonprofit organizations in designing integrated capital improvement initiatives; serving on several boards that focus on educational access, workforce development, and homelessness; and spending as much time as possible skiing in the Western U.S. and Canadian Rockies.

Payment may be made by credit/debit or ACH. The form defaults to credit/debit but ACH is selectable.
Cancellations received 21 days before the event via this form are eligible for an 80% refund. After the stated cancellation date, refunds are not available, but replacement registrants are welcomed. Extenuating circumstances will be considered on a case-by-case basis following the conclusion of the event. In the unlikely event that SAIS cancels a program, 100% of the registration fee will be refunded.
Participation in SAIS events signifies an attendee’s acknowledgment of infectious and other diseases and voluntary assumption of the risk of exposure or infection by attending the event. Attendees agree to comply with all guidelines and procedures, including distancing and/or masking, that may be implemented by SAIS, in accordance with recommendations from the CDC and other public health authorities.

Participants expressly agree not to independently record, or knowingly let anyone else record, any of the conference sessions in which they participate. Participants will also not share their unique link to the conference platform or the content therein with anyone else. The unique link to the conference platform will be used solely by the participant.
Registration, attendance at, or participation in SAIS meetings and other activities constitutes an agreement by the registrant to SAIS’s use and distribution (both now and in the future) of the registrant or attendee’s image or voice in photographs, videos, electronic reproductions, and audio of such events and activities.
