Privacy & User Consent

This Privacy Statement relates to the online information collection and use practices through the domains and subdomains sais.org, www.headsearch.org (“Head Search Database”) and accportal.org (“Accreditation Portal”) as well as through other channels and at our events you may attend (collectively, referred to as our “Service”). We recognize that many visitors and users of the Service are concerned about the information they provide to us, and how we treat that information. This Privacy Statement, which may be updated from time to time, has been developed to address those concerns.

Your use of the Service indicates to us that you have read and accept our privacy practices, as outlined in this Privacy Statement. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Statement, please contact via the Contact Us link.

What Information About You Do We Collect?

When you use or access the Service, you may provide us with two types of information: (1) personally identifiable information that you knowingly choose to disclose, which is collected on an individual basis, and (2) general user information that does not contain personally identifiable information, which is collected on an aggregate basis as you use the Service.

Personally Identifiable Information You Choose to Provide

We may ask for certain personal information from you for the purpose of providing to you content and/or services that you request. For example, if you indicate an interest in receiving our newsletter, you are asked to submit your name and e-mail address, which we retain on file, so that we may send you the information that you requested. Information submitted to reserve exhibitor booths are stored on file in our database. We may retain a record of users who have contacted us in order to respond properly to questions or concerns and for purposes of future communications. Your information is not released or shared with third parties for any purposes.

If you create an Account or register for any specific function of the Service, we will collect the information requested by that particular Service for registration, including your name and business contact information.

If you elect to purchase any type of product or offering sold through our Service, including but not limited to memberships, event registrations, online publications, and/or educational courses, we will utilize a third party credit card payment processing company to collect payment information, including your payment information, billing address, and phone number. We do not process your credit card information.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information We Collect

Log Files & Analytics: Our servers and other devices automatically record certain information. These logs may include information such as the resource you requested, your IP address, your browser type and its settings, the URL of the site you visited to get to our site (referrer), the last page you visited on our site, all of the URLs you viewed while on the Service, search terms used, number of clicks, scroll depth, files downloaded, date and time, and other such information. This information helps SAIS improve the efficiency, security, and relevance of the Service.

Device Identifiers: When using the Service on a mobile device, SAIS collects specific device information contained in your “device identifier.” Such information includes the device type, operating system, and mobile network. We may associate this identifier with your account to customize the Service to your devices/account.

Location Information: Likewise, use of the Service on a mobile device may result in collection of the location of the device. This information may also be associated with your account. You can disable this on your particular device. However, be aware that some features of the Service may not function properly as a result.

How Do We Use the Information We Collect?

We use your personally identifiable information to provide you with the information or Services, including membership, that you have requested, and, in some cases, to contact you about our programs or related services.

We use non-identifying information collected through the Service in the aggregate to better understand your use of the Service and to enhance your enjoyment and experience. For example, we may use the information to improve the design and content of our Service or to analyze the programs and services that we offer.

We may employ other companies and individuals to perform functions on our behalf. Our employees, agents and contractors who have access to personally identifiable information are required to protect the information in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Statement.

We may provide access to your personally identifiable information when legally required to do so, to cooperate with police or other government investigations or legal proceedings, to protect against misuse or unauthorized use of our Service, to limit our legal liability and protect our rights, or to protect the rights and safety of visitors to the Service or the public. In those instances, the information is provided only for that limited purpose.

We will not share your personally identifiable information in ways unrelated to those described above without providing you with an opportunity to opt out of such use or otherwise prohibit such unrelated uses.

Data Security

We take reasonable steps to maintain the security of the personally identifiable information that we collect, including limiting the number of people who have physical access to our database servers, as well as installing electronic security systems that guard against unauthorized access. However, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be completely secure. Accordingly, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information that you transmit to us, so you do so at your own risk.

The Service has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control, but we cannot guarantee that our security measures will prevent appropriation by third parties, whether through illegal means or due to inadvertent disclosure.

Consent to Transfer

The Service is operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to the United States. By using or accessing our Service, participating in any of our services and/or providing us with your information, you consent to this transfer.

Links

The Service contains links to third party sites as well as to other sites owned and/or operated by SAIS. Please be aware that SAIS is not responsible for the privacy practices of any third party sites. Please also be aware that the privacy policies of other SAIS sites may differ from the privacy policy of our Service. Therefore, we encourage our users to read the privacy statement of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This Privacy Statement applies solely to information collected by the Service.

Non-Personally Identifiable Information

For each visitor to our website, our web server automatically collects your domain name, IP address, aggregate information on what pages you access or visit, user-specific information on what pages you access or visit, and the amount of time you spend on the site. We do not collect the e-mail address of visitors to our website. The information we collect is used to improve the content of our website.

“Cookies,” Web Beacons, Pixels, And Other Tracking and Analytics Technologies

Our Service uses “cookies,” which are small text files that web servers typically send to users’ computer when they visit a website. Cookies are stored as text files on users’ hard drive and can be accessed by web servers when the user visits a website or views an advertisement. A session cookie is a cookie that stores information as a user is using the Service but is deleted once the browser session is finished. A persistent cookie is a cookie that stores information as a user utilizes the Service and stores and uses that information in connection with future visits of the user to the Service.

Our Service also uses electronic marketing technologies based on “tracking pixels” or “web beacons”. A tracking pixel or web beacon collects information from a webpage’s header, such as the IP address or browser, that provides information about individual surfing behavior and reading activities, downloads of publications and similar materials. We do this to optimize our offer according to your interests, to perform marketing and to improve personalized ads based on your personal interests.

Third-party cookies and/or web beacons are cookies or web beacons provided by our technology and/or advertising partners. Any third-party cookie or web beacon that we authorize for use on the Service only collects that information described below for the same stated purposes as if we were directly collecting the information. For a third-party cookie or web beacon, the third-party will have access to the collected information in order to provide us with information or services to enhance the performance and functionality of the Service.

The cookies and web beacons we use collect information about users of the Service, including: browser used to access the Service, date and time, the URL of the page being loaded, users who have visited a particular website(s), any previously assigned cookie identification (a unique identifier assigned to a user to identify repeat visitors), browser window size, the geographic location of the user, device and operating system used to access the Service. The information we collect from these cookies and web beacons is used to determine information about a user’s visit to our Service, including the number of visits, average time spent, pages viewed, navigation history through the website, and other statistics. This information is used to enhance the users’ experience while visiting our Service and to improve the performance of our Service by, among other things, allowing us to monitor Service performance, making the Service easier to use, measuring the effectiveness of promotional placements, and tailoring the Service (including the ads and offers a user receives) to better match a user’s interests and preferences.

Users who prefer not to accept cookies can set their Internet browser to notify them when they receive a cookie or to prevent cookies from being placed on their hard drive. If you consent to our collection of cookies and you subsequently wish to withdraw your consent, you will need to manage the settings on your web browser to delete all cookies and disallow further acceptance of cookies. Please note that disabling cookies on your browser will prevent us from tracking your activities in relation to our Service, however, it may also disable some of the functions and features of the Service and the Service may not work properly.

By continuing to use our Service, you are agreeing to our placing cookies and/or web beacons on your computer in order to analyze the way you use our Service.

If you do not wish to accept cookies or web beacons in connection with your use of our Service, please discontinue use of the Site.

Google Analytics

We use “Google Analytics” to collect information about use of this site. Google Analytics collects information such as how often users visit this site, what pages they visit when they do so, and what other sites they used prior to coming to this site. We use the information we get from Google Analytics only to improve this site. Google Analytics collects only the IP address assigned to you on the date you visit this site, rather than your name or other identifying information. We do not combine the information collected through the use of Google Analytics with personally identifiable information. Although Google Analytics plants a permanent cookie on your web browser to identify you as a unique user the next time you visit this site, the cookie cannot be used by anyone but Google. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics about your visits to this site is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use (as amended for government websites) and the Google Privacy Policy. You can prevent Google Analytics from recognizing you on return visits to this site by disabling cookies on your browser.

Ad Servers

We do partner with Feathr to encourage previous visitors of our site to register for our many educational events.

We use Feathr to help enhance the performance and functionality, including by the use of session, persistent and third-party “cookies” that store a small piece of data on users’ computers and collect certain information about the users’ visit to our Service. We also use cookies to understand users’ browsing and buying activities so that we can measure the success of online advertising campaigns we run on our websites.

Our Service also uses web beacons (either directly or from our partners), along with cookies, to determine if a user has visited a particular website. These beacons aid in providing more relevant advertising to the user, as well measuring the success of an advertising campaign.

You can visit the DAA Webchoices tool at www.aboutads.info to learn more about interest-based advertising and to opt out of this advertising on websites by companies participating in the DAA program. If you delete your cookies or use a different browser, you may need to renew your opt-out choices exercised through the DAA Webchoices tool. Note that opting out will not stop advertising from appearing in your browser. It may make the ads you see less relevant to your interests. Additionally, your browser may offer tools to limit the use of cookies or to delete cookies; however, if you use these tools, our website may not function as intended.

Do Not Track Signals

Some browsers have a “do not track” feature that lets you tell websites that you do not want to have your online activities tracked. We currently do not respond to “do not track” signals.

Children’s Privacy

Our Service is not directed to persons under 13. SAIS does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from anyone under the age of 13 or knowingly allow such persons to register for an account on the Service. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information. If you believe that we might have any information from or about a child under 13, please contact us via the Contact Us link.

Changes to Policy

From time to time, we may use customer information for new, unanticipated uses not previously disclosed in our privacy policy. If our information practices change in the future, we will post the policy changes to our website to notify you of these changes and provide you with the ability to opt out of these new uses. If you are concerned about how your information is used, you should return to our website periodically.
