Learning That Endures: Designing for a World in Motion

Independent schools are navigating a moment defined by uncertainty, complexity, and accelerating change. What does it mean to lead teaching & learning, support faculty growth, and make decisions that will hold up over time?

The SAIS Teaching & Learning Framework is a practical tool designed to help school leaders reflect on, strengthen, and design learning that endures.

Built for academic leadership teams, including chief academic officers, directors of teaching & learning, academic deans, department chairs, instructional coaches, and teacher leaders, the Framework provides shared language and structure for examining practice, guiding improvement, and leading with intention.

What the Framework Offers

Leaders can use it as a lens for program review, a guide for intentional decision-making, a foundation for faculty dialogue, and a resource for designing and scaling innovation.

At its core, the Framework identifies three competencies essential for leaders, teachers, and students:

  • Creative Reasoning
  • Relational Intelligence
  • Empowered Action

These are deepened by two cross-cutting themes, Well-Being and Digital Literacy, and grounded in the overarching frames of Mission Alignment and Continual Learning, which help schools apply the framework in ways that reflect their unique culture and context.

The result is a vision of future-ready teaching and learning that is both aspirational and actionable, rooted in who your school is, and responsive to where education is heading.
